Frequently Asked Questions

Benefits Of Unlocking Your Phone

Unlocked phones are becoming a popular choice. Why? Because of the freedom of an unlocked phone when it comes to choice of models, networks or plans.

What is an unlocked phone? An unlocked phone is a phone that isn't tied to a specific network. Therefore, you have the freedom to shop for the latest plans on a range of different networks. And when it comes to international travel, unlocked phones can't be beaten. Simply take your unlocked phone with you and use a local sim card to reduce your call / data costs while travelling. Also an added benefit is it increases the resale value of your phone if you decide to sell it in future.

Is My Phone Locked?

If you have purchased your phone from a network store or have had it on a contract then there's a good chance it will be locked to that network. This means that your phone will only work with that particular network. Best way to check this is to insert a sim card from a different network. If it asks for an unlock code or shows invalid sim then your phone is locked. Unlocking the phone will open it up to use on any network around the world.

What is an IMEI & how do I find it?

The IMEI (International Mobile Equipment Identity) number is used by a network to identify devices that connect to them and therefore can be used for stopping a stolen phone from accessing that network.

On many phones the IMEI number can be retrieved by entering *#06#, or is located in the battery compartment underneath the battery. If the phone cannot be opened, you can retrieve the IMEI from the settings menu as listed below.

Android : Settings --> About Phone
Blackberry : Options --> Status
iOS : Settings --> General --> About

Is Unlocking Permanent?

Yes. Once your phone is unlocked it will stay that way.

What's the difference between Locked & Blocked?

Locked phones are locked to a particular network. Blocked or Blacklisted phones have been reported either lost or stolen. These are then blocked by the networks by the original owner. These blocked phones CANNOT be unlocked or unblocked. This should be checked prior to the unlocking process as you may still get charged. If you would like us to check this, we can run a report prior to any unlocking takes place at an extra charge. Please contact us for more information on this.

How long does it take?

Time it takes to unlock a phone can vary depending on Make, Model & Network it's locked to. Once the details of the phone have been submitted, we'll check the price / time frames and contact you with the details.
